ASIS International (ASIS) is the preeminent organization for security management professionals, with more than 36,000 members worldwide. Founded in 1955, ASIS is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals by developing educational programs and materials that address broad security interests, such as the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits, as well as specific security topics.
ASIS also advocates the role and value of the security management profession to business, the media, government entities, and the public. By providing members and the security community with access to a full range of programs and services, and by publishing the industry's number one magazine - Security Management - ASIS leads the way for advanced and improved security performance.
The El Paso/Juarez Chapter #112 has a membership of over 60 security professionals from both sides of the US and Mexican border. It is recognized as the only Bi-national Chapter of ASIS International. Members of the chapter are active in the LEAPS (Law Enforcement and Private Security) and and IAHSS (International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety) as well as a multitude of other civic groups. One of our greatest successes has been the Law Enforcement Liaison Committee. Stemming from a complaint, the law enforcement community and fellow ASIS members banded together and created the LEAPS (Law Enforcement and Private Security) group to bring issues forward. The committee was instrumental in the False Alarms Reduction Initiative enacted by the City of El Paso in November 2005 that is predicted to cut "False Alarms" in the city by 50%.
Another success story is the chapter's annual golf tournament that raises money for local charities to include "CrimeStoppers of El Paso" and also awards scholarships to worthy Criminal justice/law enforcement/security students. Scholarships have been awarded to students at the University of Texas at El Paso, The University of Phoenix, El Paso Community College and numerous other local educational venues.
In it's 13th year, the chapter continues to sponsor the premier law enforcement recognition banquet of its kind in El Paso. The Law Enforcement Appreciation Luncheon draws members of the community, the security community and local dignitaries to thank and honor those brave officers and leaders that make that daily sacrifice to make our city one of the safest cities in the nation. Each year the outpouring of support for this event has been tremendous and serves as a testament to the great job these members of law enforcement perform on a daily basis. Representatives of the El Paso Police Department, the El Paso County Sheriff's Department, The United States Army Provost Marshal's Office, numerous surrounding law enforcement agencies, state agencies and of course federal agencies are represented at each year's event.
